Hightown’s supported housing for young people helps people leaving care or facing homelessness find a safe home. They provide emotional support and teach young people the key life skills they need to build solid foundations and live independently.
In the video, Hightown asked Montana what difference supported housing has made to her life. This is what she said:
How has support helped you?
‘They communicate with you, they talk to you about your day, everything that’s going on. They help you strive and become the better person you should be when you’re living on your own. And it makes me feel as if someone’s listening because the world can be quite a quiet place. I would say I’ve grown as a person, and I do like the direction of the person I’m growing into.’
How has support helped you achieve a goal?
“I set a goal with my support worker to find a job, and then with the help of my support worker, we found a job.”
What are your goals for the future?
“So, I work in retail, in a nice little store in the high street. I’m getting promoted next month and I’m very excited because it’s the first time I’m officially a leader – so I don’t want to mess up, I want to do a very good job.”
