IV’s story

IV is in his 60s and lived in residential care for nearly 30 years, where he was supported with his learning disability, thriving on structure and routine.

When his residential home had to close, IV was faced with an uncertain future. Coastline Housing Association was able to offer IV a safe new home with connection to his community. Read more to find out how IV settled into his new home with the help of Coastline’s staff.

What difference did supported housing make?

IV enjoys helping others and needs routine and consistency to be happy at home. Coastline’s extra care supported housing for older or disabled people gives IV the extra support he needs to manage his life and keep connected to his community.

Coastline support workers visit IV twice a day and provide three hours of support a week to help him be part of his community, manage his banking, do his shopping and complete domestic tasks.

Since moving in, IV has settled into his new home and environment. He enjoys visiting a day centre to stay socially engaged and part of his community. Now, IV has also started to give back to his community, volunteering to help at social events.

With the right support, IV can now maintain his independence in his own home. After facing an uncertain future, IV is now settled, happy and thriving in his own home, taking an active part in his community.
