Steve’s story

"Supported Housing gives me peace of mind, it takes the pressure off me. It reduces the stress I put on myself, and is actually improving my health. Supported Housing is so important, it has saved my life."

Steve suffers from bad health day to day. 11 years ago, after falling down the stairs for a second time, he decided to move from his terraced property and made the decision to move in to sheltered accommodation.

It’s made such a huge difference in his life. The Careline service makes Steve feel so much safer. The pull chords and pendants help Steve live a more independent life. After 2 heart attacks, Steve credits Careline for saving his life. Steve has had adaptations made to his property. He has had a wet room put in, pick up sticks have been given to him, and different aids have been given to help him around the house (eg) raised seat for the toilet, perching stool for the kitchen.

Without supported housing accommodation, Steve would still be in a private rental property. He would not be able to move around so freely and would be more isolated from others.

Help raise awareness

Thousands of people have gained their independence through supported housing. The Starts at Home campaign aims to ensure that people who need extra support will always have a home that meets their needs.
