Here is his story.
“Two of my brothers died due to addiction and I ended up living on the streets. I was chronically ill, both physically and mentally. I felt trapped, consumed by the thought of the next drink or drug. I hated myself so much I wanted to die.
“In 2013 I completed a detox and moved to one of Transform’s recovery houses in Farnham. It gives me a safe environment to act as a base for my recovery, so I can get the support I need. Transform staff are willing and able to help you regain your independence but you must be completely honest with them, and the rebuilding process takes time.
“Now I am sober and free from illicit drugs. I’ve lost over five stone and have had two knee replacements, so I can do more physically. I’m rebuilding my relationships with my sons, I’m managing better financially and I’m doing voluntary work. I hope to use my experiences to benefit others by offering peer support. My mental health is much more balanced and I am much happier. I am beginning to like myself again.”
