Michael’s story

Now in supported housing, Michael invites friends round to visit his house and socialise.

Michael was being targeted and exploited by people he thought were his friends in his previous property. Bolton at Home labelled Michael as a vulnerable adult and he was offered a property in the Eldon Street Extra Care Unit.

Michael moved in to supported housing this year and is now no longer a target. Moving in to Eldon Street has really helped him. The carers are really friendly, they take good care of him, and take an interest in his well being. They are there to reassure him, make sure he is looking after himself, and also shield him from the people from his past.

If Michael hadn’t moved in to Eldon Street he would still be a target and wouldn’t be strong enough by himself to avoid being exploited and becoming a target again and again. Michael says that “It’s the best place I have ever lived in my life. It has basic comforts with a little extra added care thrown in. It is perfect for my needs and and I am no longer embarrassed about inviting people back to my house.”

Help raise awareness

Thousands of people have gained their independence through supported housing. The Starts at Home campaign aims to ensure that people who need extra support will always have a home that meets their needs.
