Matthew’s story

Matthew needed help and support to organise his life. Since moving in he's experienced some significant changes and improvements to his quality of life.

Matthew was in poor health and unable to manage his personal hygiene as he lacked the specialist bathroom facilities that he needed. He was also unable to go out, had few visitors, and had recently been the victim of frequent financial and verbal abuse. Matthew was socially isolated, suffering from mental illness, alcohol dependent and experiencing a very poor quality of life.

Wellingborough Homes were able to assess him and offer him accommodation in a ground floor Independent Living Scheme which met his physical needs. As well as providing an active social life through activities organised by other residents and the use of the scheme’s communal areas and facilities. Matthew was very excited about his new flat, and after viewing it with his parents, accepted the tenancy. He also received a support package from Wellingborough Homes Independent Living team as well as specialist support from other agencies to help him settle in.

Since moving in, Matthew has experienced some significant changes and improvements to his quality of life, making new friends in the Scheme and taking part in the social activities that are organised there. Matthew says “I would just like to say thank you so very much firstly for making this move possible and it’s great, I never knew that life could be so happy and calm. Thanks again and may your life be as happy as the one you have made possible for me”.
