Lavinia’s Story

Supported housing has meant Lavinia is more secure and her confidence has increased.

In October 2018 Lavinia made the difficult and brave decision to leave an abusive relationship after 28 years and sought the help of her doctor and social worker. Initially she moved to a guest house in Brighton, but after a few months Lavinia now counts herself lucky to have been offered a flat at The Cedars.

“It’s been a rollercoaster but it’s good to be here. In just a few months, I have managed to get out and go on a bus, meet friends and interact with a few people. My whole life has turned around for the better.”

“I’m really happy at The Cedars. It’s quiet, peaceful and safe, which is the main thing for me and my dog – he’s doing really well too – we’re going through it together.”

Help raise awareness

Thousands of people have gained their independence through supported housing. The Starts at Home campaign aims to ensure that people who need extra support will always have a home that meets their needs.
