Ellen’s story

Supported housing has enabled Ellen to get the support that she needs to improve her life and to eventually move into a place of her own.

Ellen’s always struggled with her mental health and was referred to Look Ahead Care and Support after being discharged from hospital.

Struggling with a substance addiction, Ellen felt unable to seek support from her family members who were financially and emotionally exploiting her.

Ellen moved into supported housing and with continued support from Look Ahead, Ellen started to change her life by taking her medication effectively. She also managed to significantly cut down her alcohol intake and worked with the service to achieve abstinence.

Ellen’s mental health significantly improved during her time within Look Ahead’s service, and after encouragement, she’s enrolled in a demanding Open University course where she went on to achieve a Social Studies degree, which was an amazing achievement for her.

After developing enough skills to manage to live independently Ellen was really pleased to move into her own housing.
