Sam’s story

By the age of 28, Sam was alcohol-dependent and living on the streets.

At 28, Sam was homeless and dependent on alcohol.

He moved in to supported housing provided by Moat on 28 July 2016. Their 83 Colebrook Road scheme in Tunbridge Wells is designed to help street homeless, ex-offenders, and those with alcohol and drug dependence. It provides accommodation, education, training and a range of support services, with the aim of equipping people with the tools to leave rough sleeping for good and rebuild their lives.

Having a home in supported housing gave Sam a roof over his head and he says that being there gave him the tools to address his drinking, to the point that he could eventually undergo a community detox.

If it wasn’t for supported housing, Sam is sure that he would still be on the street, and would not have been able to confront his issues with alcohol.

Supported housing has been really important to Sam’s journey. Fundamentally, he says, “it gave me the support I need to move forward with my life.”
